Let's talk about Maison Margiela & the story behind the replica German army trainer.
Bundeswehr Sportschuh Halle, originally created for the country’s military. Since has had a revamp from a number of great shoe companies including Maison Margiela, Adidas and probably much more to come.
Featuring a suede, leather & calfskin upper with tan rubber soles. The label on the inner sole reading "replica," paying homage to the 70s Austrian sneaker.
But is this sneaker worth the extra few hundred, when you're likely to come across the original BW Hallenschuhe sneaker from thrift shops in places like Amsterdam? I guess that depends on what you're looking for. Maison Margiela defiantly wins on quality.
What we know is that in 1989 these sleek German sneakers were issued to more than half a million members of the German military. Soon after being made available to the public and appearing in a number of stores across Europe.
Personally, I think Margiela has done this iconic 70s sneaker justice and if they did them in a women's UK4 I would most defiantly own a pair already!
